Drilling and Soil Investigation

Drilling

GroundTruth knows drilling. We’re licensed, independent and we’re specialists.  Geotechncial and environmental drilling is our forte.

GroundTruth undertakes drilling for geotechnical investigations for  bulk earthworks prokjects, complex commercial developments, contaminated sites, large scale groundwater monitoring systems, and lightning protection systems.

With three drill rigs available, we can meet your geotechnical investigation, agronomic sampling, and groundwater monitoring needs.

Our drillers are licensed to a class 2 national standard and have state licences for Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia. We are highly mobile with light weight, high capacity rigs capable of drilling to drill to 40 m in unconsolidated materials using a variety of techniques.  Our rigs can use jack hammers to collect solid cores for contaminated sites.

Our capacity is extensive, so contact us to discuss your drilling needs.

Piezometer Installation

Each year GroundTruth installs hundreds of piezometers.  GroundTruth are experts in the installation, maintenance and monitoring of groundwater monitoring wells (piezometers).  All are built with quality materials and to the Australian Standards.

With piezometers costing between $2000 to $10,000 each it is imperative that your investment lasts as long as possible and that it delivers data with integrity.

We have installed piezometers right next to nationally significant rivers, in sensitive National Park sites and at logistically “tight to get in to” urban service stations.  Our operations are low impact.  We are careful to not create vertical flow paths between aquifers or to enhance the movement of contaminants into the soil profile.

Our construction delivers integrity in the completed works.

Mud Drilling

Sandy wet soils pose difficult drilling conditions as they often continue to collapse.  Although hollow flight augers often assist, the most reliable drilling technique is mud drilling.  By injecting water and polymers down the borehole, collapsing soils are stabilised; allowing the collection of samples or the installation of a piezometer.  GroundTruth are experts in mud drilling.  We are experienced at site management and equipped to leave minimal impact or scarring.  We have portable mud pits so that all fluids and cuttings are managed to leave a clean site.

Augering

What diameter and how deep ?  We are able to auger holes form 75 to 150mm in diameter and up to 30m in depth.  If you need large diameter holes we can do that too! Augering requires high torque drill rigs.  We have them and are well experienced in drilling in difficult unconsolidated materials and tough sites.  We use augering methods for all manner of geotechnical investigations and construction projects.

Hollow Flight Augering

Our drill rigs are able to drill to 20m with hollow flight augers.  We use 152 mm diamtere augers with a 90mm internal diameter which provides easy post sampling construction of piezometers.  We are able to use core barral samplers in the augers allowing us to collect samples as we go.

Rotary Air Blast

Our Wedgetail Mk4 rig is cable of drilling a 100mm hole in rock using RABV techniques.  This is most useful in the installation of piezometers when in variable strata; especially inconjunction with the other capabilities that the same rig is able to deliver.

Civil Works, Trenching and Boring

GroundTruth project manage and undertake earthworks in association with our specialist services to project manage construction and undertake minor civil works.  We have considerable experience in trenching, boring and assisting with service installation; pipe and electrical works. GroundTruth is highly experienced to managing complex field based projects involving civil works and installation of specialist technical equipment ranging from remote sensing and solar power, to pump facilities, through to lightning protection systems.  We work closely with designers and engineers in the construction and installation.
